C119 Report - 6/4/2011 - Greener Pastures

The grounds surrounding the aircraft are not yet dry enough to cut, so the "amber waves of grain" are quite green. We were able to walk through the knee high grass to start work inside the plane this week. A "Wish List" of needed parts has been put together and we are working with others to locate what we need. Next week window repair will continue.

The very top of this stick is at water level in the frog pond. We are monitoring it to get an idea of the water table near the plane.

Kevin and George have started repairs on the aileron in the 1941 hanger and were pleased with the results. Encouraged by their success, they will continue on with the rest of the trim tabs and aileron surfaces.

Awesome, looks great guys!

You guys should see if you can get some mfgrs to donate some solar panel cells, and get some storage batteries to provide some internal LED lighting. you've got plenty of nice wing area to affix the cells to, Depending on how much you can get dontated, I can probably find a nice hefty inverter to power some lightweight 120volt tools, (i.e. drills, and such). It won't drive something like a compressor, but smaller stuff.. I think there's a gas engine powered air compressor someplace (got moved around in the cleanup/shuffle), that I might be able to get going so you can have air tools out there, without needing to run a very expensive high current underground power run.

Thanks for the update, Dave. Was just talking to some NPS folks about the HAG's restoration projects. See you in the fall!

Looks like the C-119 needed some floats!
